Insight: What Do You See?

"They have eyes but cannot see"

There is a famous line in the book of Psalms from the Bible, "they have eyes but cannot see". What an irony! Figuratively speaking, this line talks about the difference between sight and insight. The former is about the colours and hue, the worldly beauty that you can see while the latter talks about your consciousness and the level of your awareness. There is a huge difference between sight and insight.

One is looking outwards, while the other one is looking inwards.

As we start to appreciate what our vision feeds us, we then acknowledge that we are born fully equipped with what we will be needing in this short journey called life. But as we take each step, we have questions that need answers. We have different choices to make, decisions that need to be set. This is when we look inwards. We dive deep into our consciousness to find answers. This requires a level of discipline to be the master of the whispers of our convictions and the loud noise of our thoughts.

There are moments when we struggle to find a solution or have been going through something and are unsure what to do next. You read a book, have a chat with someone or you've seen something, and all of a sudden you have a moment of clarity.

This Aha! moment is called insight.

The moment of sudden clarity and understanding

Understanding Insight

Insight is the ability to grasp a complete and accurate picture of someone, something, or a certain situation. This is when you allow yourself to open your conscious mind wide open and instantly you can see what the naked eyes can't see. This gives you a deep understanding of your situation, an answer, an action that you need to do.

Insights are powerful but will always need action. Otherwise, your powerful insights will stay as-is and become just passing thoughts.

It can be very frustrating to understand your potential and not make the most of it.

Cultivating Insightful Moments

In a world full of noise how do you then silence your mind, soul and body to have a moment of clarity or simply have an insightful moment? Here are some suggestions that have worked for me and some of the people I have interviewed at the Freedom Fire Podcast.

Inspiration

Look for inspiration. Do things that will make your heart sing melodies that could be writing, playing with your child, cooking, training in the army, taking your dog for a walk, starting a business. Anything that sparks joy and gives you life.

Grow

Do something every day that fosters your growth. Be committed to your own self-development with an open mind. It can be watching a butterfly fly, reading a book, listening to a TEDx talk, listening to podcasts. Be present to take in the lesson of every moment.

Nourish

For a plant to blossom it must be nurtured and nourished. Nourish your soul by exercising, praying, meditation, eating your favourite meal. Whatever fills your cup. Maybe just being kind to yourself and showing yourself some grace. When you stop and choose to nourish yourself, with no doubt you will have aha moments.

You are created for greatness and if you open your insightful eyes, the world will open up to you. You are part of this puzzle and you are here for a reason, your life matters and is worth every second. Make the most of it and make things happen.
